Any DVD player is set to a specific region. The manufacturer of any DVD player can not legally information or no other means by which one can change the code that is specific to each region. And because of this any DVD of some other region can not be played. For example, all the players that are made available in the US are set to Region 1 and in the UK they are set to region 2. These DVD players are set to their respective regions before they are supplied. Therefore at times, when after searching for long, you find the DVD of your favorite serial which is from another region code. In your eagerness to watch the same you fail to realize that you might not be able to play in the DVD player of your region. So, you insert the DVD into your DVD player and the only thing that is displayed is a message that really annoys you. This message says wrong region or something near it. You might even wonder if the DVD that you have purchased is at fault or even worse, you might suspect that your DVD player has stopped working. Here arrives the need for a region free DVD player.
At times many players secretly have certain codes which can be fed in the DVD player using the remote. This changes the region code and can even make them region free, although this is not allowed legally. Therefore in order to have a legal arrangement, you can now go for region free DVD players. As the name itself suggests, this DVD is not under any region confines. With this type of a DVD player, you can play a DVD of any region without ant problem with the region code. These DVD players will let you play any DVD irrespective of their region. The region free DVD players are also called as the region zero DVD players as they do not belong to any region. In these we can even change the region using the remote, but this time legally. But tall the problems do not come to an end here. Though these region free DVD players can play any DVD without any region constraints, there are issues of compatibility with the two video formats. These are the PAL and the other being the NTSC. For instance if a DVD is bought from the UK, it would be in PAL format, and therefore can not be played in a DVD player in the US which would be in the NTSC format.
